Perfect pairings: Chile’s signature grape, Carmenere, is the perfect match for spice-laden curries.

Wines made from Carmenere grapes are savoury, peppery, spicy and slightly smoky, elements that perfectly complement the chilli and warming spices such as ginger and cardamom found in Indian food. Not surprisingly, the slight smokiness of Carmenere really brings out the smoky flavours of tandoor-cooked ingredients, while the herbal nature of Carmenere allows it to assert itself against the robust spices in Indian food without being dominated by the food, giving you the perfect balance between food and drink during your meal.

With Carmenere wines ranging from light and fruity to more intense reds, it couldn’t be easier to match the wine to the type of dish you’re serving. So next time you cook up a curry, make sure you go for Chile with your chilli!
